International Visits

Our wide-ranging International visits programme all provides Mulberry students with extraordinary opportunities for skills development and learning, while developing insight into cultures and peoples around the world. Some notable recent visits have included:
Media Studies Visit to Hollywood
In February, 2008 20 pupils visited Los Angeles to support their Media Studies. Pupils went behind the scenes at Sony and Universal Studios to learn that, as well as being fun, the media requires a lot of hard work. However, they were inspired by the many career opportunities on offer. Pupils also had the opportunity to visit Venice Beach, with its bewildering array of African palm readers and sellers of mini murtis.


UNIS New York Trip
Every year Mulberry sends a delegation of Year 12&13 students to the United Nations International School in Manhattan for its annual youth conference. During the conference, which is held in the United Nations General Assembly hall, students learn about and debate global issues by hearing from leading experts. In the process they gain inspiration for the Mulberry Youth Conference which they organise upon their return. Students enjoy homestays with UNIS students and their families, and explore the cultural riches of New York City.
Global Classrooms Delhi Visit
For the past two years, a group of Mulberry FE students has attended the DPS RK. Puram Model UN Conference in Delhi, India. Students attending debate global politics with young people from throughout South Asia and visit the unforgettable historic sites of Agra and Jaipur.

Global Classrooms New York
Every year, six students attend the UNA/USA Model UN in New York City. Simulating a meeting of the United Nations in the UN General Assembly Hall is an unforgettable experience. During their stay students attend a breakfast with Executives of Merrill Lynch, the Global Sponsor of the project, visit several New York City schools, and explore the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty and other New York sights.

Slovenia Debate Programme
Mulberry has a very strong relationship with Gimnasia Franca Miklosica in Ljutomer, Slovenia. Since 2003 we have been attending the Intenational debate programme. Through this programme students stay with the families of Slovenian debaters in the quiet and pretty village of Ljutomer. During their stay they engage in high level debates with students from schools all around the world, learn about the cultures of other debaters, and enjoy the lovely Slovenian countryside.
Belgium WWI visit
English students in the Sixth Form enjoy this annual overnight visit to Belgium where the WW1 Battlefields, site of the tragic events which inspired the poetry of Wilfred Owen and other soldiers.
Auschwitz visit
A small group of Year 10 students visit the former concentration camp in Auschwitz, where they learn of the tragedy of the Holocaust.
Global Leaders Programme – Washington and New York:
A group of Sixth Formers will soon be spending a week in both Washington and New York as part of the young leaders programme. Students will spend a week in America’s capital learning about Global issues, and a week in New York, exploring America’s financial and cultural centre. Throughout this time they will attend lectures from senior political and cultural figures.
Spain Visit
Each July a group of language students spend a week in sunny Spain, studying the language, enjoying the food and culture and visiting historic sites such as the Alhambra.
France Visit
Sponsored by Herbert Smith, students take a day trip to Paris where they visit Notre Dame, the Louvre, and other famous sites, and meet staff at the Parisian office of Herbert Smith.
CERN Visit in Geneva
Last year a group of Year 11 science students travelled to Switzerland where they visited the new CERN super-collider at the particle physics laboratory. The students toured the facility and met with scientists who taught them about the laboratory and the work they do.
