Aims of the Modern Languages Faculty
• To enable pupils to communicate effectively in real-life situations.
• To encourage a creative use of the target language by developing an understanding and mastery of the structures involved.
• To engage the interest of all pupils and to provide enjoyment and intellectual stimulation.
• To offer insights and access to the culture concerned.
• To form a base of skills, attitudes and language required for further study.
• To enable pupils to compete advantageously in the world of work.

Facilities
There are seven specialist rooms each equipped with an interactive whiteboard and wi-fi. Two of the rooms also have 15 computers for pupils.
KS 3 Introduction
The Department offers pupils the choice of studying French and Bengali or French and Spanish throughout KS3 with the three languages sharing equal status.
KS 4 Introduction
Pupils are given the option of continuing with one or two languages at GCSE. From September 2009 Bengali, French and Spanish will be using the new AQA Examination Board GCSE syllabus.
Special Features
All pupils in KS 3 and KS 4 are given the opportunity of participating in both residential and day visits to France and there is an annual residential visit to Spain. Both Bengali and French are offered at AS/A2 Level and French and Spanish are offered as Open University enrichment courses to Post 16 students. Arabic is also offered as an enrichment course.
