Mulberry School for Girls is a community school with a roll of over 1400 students aged between 11-19. Our sixth form centre is open to external applicants and we take young women from a number of different schools and colleges. The school is close to Whitechapel and Shadwell. It is in the heart of Tower Hamlets' multi-cultural community but also on the edge of the City of London with which we have established firm business links.
Over the past decade, Mulberry has gained a reputation for academic excellence of which we are justly proud. Our young women are encouraged to give of their best in an environment that is both challenging and supportive. Mulberry School aims to develop the aspirations, leadership capabilities, confidence and self-esteem of young women. Our ethos is built around 'Confidence, Creativity, Leadership and Learning for Young Women' and everything we do is designed to support learners in achieving their full potential. We specialise in high quality education for women and this extends to our community; we accept mature learners on our community education programme which includes access to Open University.
There are a number of important elements to the education we provide at Mulberry. In 2006, Mulberry was designated a specialist school for the Arts in English, Media and the Expressive Arts. We have new buildings with 'state of the art' facilities for learning in all subject areas including sport, music, languages, art, drama and dance. Fully equipped technology rooms specialise in food, textiles, graphics, electronics, resistant materials and ICT.
Mulberry has British Council International School status in recognition of our international work and the school’s extensive links with the United Nations. Our Training School status is a reflection of the high standards of practice here at Mulberry which led us to achieve Leading Edge status in 2005.
Mulberry School has a purpose-built sixth form centre with its own Independent Study Centre and library. We actively encourage girls to pursue their studies post-16. We offer A' Level study in over 20 subject areas and qualifications in vocational areas at Entry Level, Level 1 and level 2 in Business, Health and Social Care, Hospitality and Catering and Life Skills. We offer Open University courses for enrichment and we have an 'Oxbridge' mentoring programme. We have support for learning for students with SEN and EAL needs and we are fully accessible for students with disabilities.
Over 85% of Mulberry students go on to study university degrees in a wide range of disciplines and many Mulberry girls go on to successful careers in law, medicine and health care, the arts, business and finance. There is a strong tradition of involvement by the sixth form in the life of the whole school; older girls act as role models to younger pupils, demonstrating good leadership and ambassadorial skills.
Enterprise education, work-related learning and active citizenship work are key elements of our provision. We also have strong pastoral care and guidance. Our Out of Hours Learning programme of extra-curricular activities has received recognition with Advanced Status from QuISS (Quality in Study Support). We expect our girls to contribute actively and positively to their community whilst at school, laying a foundation for such work in later life.
Parents, carers and potential students are always welcome to visit the school. If you would like to do so, we would be happy to make an appointment for you.
